The Importance of Anesthesia
Delivering Comfort in Place of Pain
Anesthesia is the process of blocking the perception of pain and other sensations. It allows patients to undergo surgery and other procedures without the distress and pain they would otherwise experience. The choice of anesthetic technique is a complex one, and the best approach involves individual assessment of the patient and the procedure in order to plan the anesthetic event.
There was a time when the goal of anesthesia was simply to allow the surgeon to perform a procedure in the absence of patient death. More recently, however, it has been recognized that it is possible to have a patient survive a procedure after a less than satisfactory anesthetic event. This has led to a move towards the human goal of anesthesia: maintaining the patient as close as possible to their normal functioning state.
Abbott Animal Health offers a variety of anesthetic products to support the veterinary professional in achieving this goal. Through the usage of our anesthetics, anesthetists are able to provide balanced anesthesia, optimize the anesthetic experience, and maximize the quality of recovery.
