Glucose Monitoring

The Importance of Home Blood Glucose Monitoring
One in every 200 cats and one in every 500 dogs suffer from either Type I or Type II diabetes. Pets with these diseases typically require daily injections of insulin to metabolize dietary glucose, along with careful monitoring.
Unfortunately, relying solely on your veterinarian to monitor your pet's blood glucose might not be the best course of action. Just as some people become nervous or experience anxiety over the thought of seeing their dentist or doctor, dogs and cats may have the same feelings when visiting their veterinarian. This apprehension can artificially elevate their blood glucose levels, which makes it harder for veterinarians to accurately diagnose and prescribe the best treatment options for diabetic pets.
But there's something you can do!
The AlphaTRAK® Blood Glucose Monitoring System allows you to perform home testing on your diabetic dogs and cats in order to gain a more complete profile of your pets' blood glucose levels. What's more, working with your veterinarian, you may be able to improve the health of your diabetic pet by catching problems in the early stages.
